Heteroscodra maculata
(Pockock, 1899)
Togo starburst baboon / Ornamental baboon (arboreal)
Central Africa
~ 5 cm bodylength
Longevity: ♀ ~ 13 years, ♂ ~ 4 years
This African arboreal is very shy and only rarely visible in the terrarium. The young animals are greyish to greenish, while an adult female has an almost white basic color. This species is known for its very potent venom and should therefore only be looked after by responsible and experienced keepers. When it comes down to it, this tarantula is faster than the human eye. It is also a master of camouflage (as can be seen in the pictures below).
