Heteropoda venatoria
Linnaeus, 1767
Giant crab spider
Asia
~ 2,5 cm bodylength
This species is native to Asia, but can also be found in New Zealand, Australia and Africa. Due to its widespread distribution, Heteropoda venatoria is probably one of the best-known Hunstman spiders. Males usually do not live to be more than 18 months old, females are almost two years old, and an egg sac can contain more than 400 larvae. This species is adaptable and is also often found (in its habitat) in the vicinity of humans.
