Lasiodora parahybana

(Mello-Leitão, 1917)

Salmon pink birdeater (terrestrial)
Brazil
~ 9 cm bodylength
Longevity: 15 ~ ? years, ♂ ~ 5 years

With Lasiodora klugi (which they look very similar) another impressive representative from Brazil, or the Paraíba area, which was formerly called Parahyba. With a body length of nine cm, this species is one of the large tarantulas. If they are disturbed, they are not stingy to use their urticating hairs, the eating behavior can also be very aggressive. It is worth considering whether you want to breed this species, since egg sacs with well over a thousand eggs should be possible. In the wild, Lasiodora parahybana live under stones and pieces of wood. They are also rather undemanding in the terrarium.
